About Oral B

History

The company announced in July of 2014 that P&G revealed that it would be selling the Oral B brush division to the investment firm with strategic aims, AEA Investors. The sale was completed in the month of December 2014.

In January of 2017 P&G disclosed the acquisition of its Oral-B electric toothbrush professional business to the world's largest dental company, Henry Schein for $1.23 billion in cash. [21]

In May of 2018 the company announced it was going to sell the Oral-B power toothbrush to the electric toothbrush manufacturer, Cross Action Toothbrush Company for $26 million cash. [22]

Dr. Robert W. Hutson The creator of the Hutson toothbrush, and the Oral-B's founder was born 1920, in Watsonville, California. He was a dentist in the University of California, San Francisco and was a member of the Navy during World War II. He developed an instrument that had tiny, round-ended, nylon filaments that he claimed were soft on gums but effective in cleaning teeth. The toothbrushes were developed by Owens Brush Company. in 1958 Hutson obtained a patent to use the invention of a "mouthbrush" having fine, soft bristles made of nylon that were flat-ended with a similar design similar to the design of 1950. In his application, he claimed that the brush was less rough on tooth enamel, more effective in massaging gums and was more efficient in removing tooth-colored powder as opposed to other brushes at the time, with the coarse bristles that were cut in an angle.

Hutson has sold his toothbrush business in the mid-sixties, and continued to run his San Jose periodontal practice. Oral-B joined Gillette in 1984. Gillette company in the year 1984. It was bought from Procter & Gamble in 2006. A representative of the company has said that "B" in Oral-B stands for "brush".

The year 2013 saw Colombian performer Shakira was selected as the brand's persona and brand ambassador of The 3D White property. Then, in July of 2014 P&G made it clear that they'd sell the Oral-B tooth-care division of the investment company with strategic aims, AEA Investors. The deal was concluded in December of 2014.
