Dis-Chem Foundation Foundation donates to Ikamva Labantu

Cape Talk and the Dis-Chem Foundation care for the kids

17 February 2010

Following on from a hugely successful radiothon last year, 567 CapeTalk is asking listeners to renew their support for an underprivileged child.

In January 2009, 567 CapeTalk asked listeners to pledge to feed, clothe and school a child for R150 a month. The money went to Ikamva Labantu, an organization that enables communities and carers to look after their most vulnerable members.

The response from the people of the Cape was astounding and Ikamva Labantu was able to take care of more than double the number of orphans they could previously.

This year, 567 CapeTalk has asked listeners to renew their debit orders so that all these kids can be supported for 2010 too.

“The Radiothon was an overwhelming success but we were always concerned about sustaining the contribution towards these kids,” said 567 CapeTalk programming manager, Africa Melane. “R150 may be a relatively small amount to many of our listeners, and yet to the children supported by Ikamva Labantu, it is the difference between food, clothes and an education, or nothing.

We’re hoping that last year’s contributors have realized how far their R150 goes and will be willing to sign on for another year.”

To kick start the campaign, the Dis-Chem Foundation, which has long been a partner of CapeTalk Cares initiatives donated R60 000 to Ikamva Labantu on the Aden Thomas show.
