The sun was shining, the air was crisp and the Dis-Chem Foundations Cool2Care volunteers were all ready and waiting at 9:00am on a beautiful Saturday morning in October. The team of over 20 volunteers ranging in age from 12 years old to 50 years old, ere excited to arrive at Abraham Kriel children’s home in Langlaagte to set up for the long awaited and meticulously planned fun day whilst the 60 children at Abraham Kriel were eager and waiting for the team to begin the events of the day.The Dis-Chem Foundations Cool2Care volunteers had organized a myriad of games for the children to enjoy. After taking a few moments to set out the cut oranges (for hydration), the juice and sweaty bags the games were ready to begin. The children participated in games ranging from a soccer tournament, boxing lessons and one legged races for the boys, to cricket lessons, egg and spoon races and find the smarties in the flour game. The children raced around in excitement eager to win the attention of the volunteers and try each game. One of the volunteers very generously brought ice-creams so in a much needed break the children sat down to refresh and cool down with their delicious ice-creams.A fun morning was had by all. The volunteers spent time with the children not only playing games but talking to them, laughing and listening to their news of the week. A little attention goes a long way in a lonely child’s life. A big thank-you to all of our volunteers for making this day possible.
